“1 Peter 2:5 – In His Hands, We Are Built”

Pastor’s Letters

So, we’ve come home from the Feast of Tabernacles and Eighth Day, and I’m seeing many comments on Social Media about a “Post Feast Let Down”.

I’m confused by this statement. Why?

Because as children of God we live this way of life, daily, 24-7 if you will.

We’ve recently had a genuine boost with having 8 days to be together in worshipping God, but it should be a spring board, not a slide which ends at the bottom, right?

As we begin this weekly Sabbath, might we consider and ponder Galatians 6:7 “…whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap”.

Earlier today as I finished my sermon for tomorrow, I mused on some thoughts I once read by Madame Chiang Kai-Shek.

If your and my past in this physical life teaches us anything it is that every cause brings effect, every action a consequence. How we live and think produces an outcome. This moral foundation of the universe would apply equally to the world we live in today, and the one that is coming. God knows this. It’s why he also said, “as a man thinks in his heart so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).

The population living in China have a saying, “If a man plants melons, he will reap melons; if he sows beans, he will reap beans.” This is true of all of our lives. God tells us that good begets good, and evil leads to evil.

So, true enough, the sun that was made by our Creator shines on those God calls, and those He’s not yet called, and does it not seem that all too often the wicked around us prosper?

How about a “Post Feast Upward Focus!” to redirect our thinking from what we “see” around us? I remember years ago working on the staff of a magazine that truly reflected this, and at the very least with its title, “Vertical Thought”. Where do we focus our thoughts and living?

You and I can say with absolute certainty that, with each one of us individually, as with our families, nation, world, fellowship, etc. the flourishing of the wicked is an illusion, for God keeps books on every one of us. As a famous song once beckoned, “It’s a Grand Illusion”.

In the end friends, we are a sum total of all our actions and also how we think and where our focus is. Character can’t be counterfeited, nor can we simply put it on or take it off as if it were a piece of clothing that we have chosen.

Growing up in Nebraska I often would examine limbs and trunks from trees that had been cut. Similar to the markings on wood which are ingrained in the very heart of a tree, character requires time and nurture for growth and development…it tells a story of our past and our future.

So, day by day, you and I write our personal destiny as we focus and respond to God. We actually do become what we DO and THINK.

Let us each truly seek to sow the seeds, and focus our mental and emotional energy on those things that build up and are positive. (Phil 4:8) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Let us DO those actions that produce true Godly character, as we walk this trek in our lives as God’s children.

…as I close this letter, as I do every Friday evening…as we enter His Sabbath…reflect on this with me, will you?

And again, may God continue to richly bless you. Our prayers and thoughts are with you daily. Please do pray for us as well.
